White Bump Under the Eye: What to Know

Milia are usually firm, pearly bumps close to the surface and often do not hurt or itch. A red, sore, or pus-filled spot may instead involve an inflamed follicle. Heat, friction, or a reaction can produce other bumps, while a scaly or changing patch deserves a clinical look. The under-eye area is thin, so colour, texture, and symptoms matter more than the white colour alone.

Keep the area clean with a mild cleanser and avoid scrubbing, heavy rubbing, or trying to extract the bump at home. Do not apply acne acids, essential oils, or prescription products close to the eye unless a clinician has advised you. Remove eye makeup gently and stop any product that stings. A dermatologist can confirm the diagnosis and, when appropriate, remove a persistent lesion using a suitable method such as cryotherapy for selected lesions.

Book an assessment if the bump grows, bleeds, crusts, becomes painful, or remains despite gentle care. Seek urgent help if swelling affects vision, the eye becomes very red, eye movement hurts, or fever accompanies swelling. Do not delay care for a rapidly changing lesion near the eyelid.
