A salpingectomy removes one fallopian tube or both tubes. It may be recommended for an ectopic pregnancy, a blocked or damaged tube, infection, a mass, or risk-reduction planning. The operation can be laparoscopic, through small abdominal incisions, or open when the situation requires wider access. Removing a tube does not by itself remove the ovaries or uterus, although another operation may be discussed when clinically relevant.
