Which specialist performs loop excision of the cervix?

Loop excision, also called LLETZ or LEEP, removes an area of cervical tissue using a thin heated wire loop. A gynaecological oncology specialist can assess abnormal screening or biopsy results, plan the procedure, and explain how the tissue will be examined. The referral does not by itself confirm cancer; abnormal cervical cells can have different grades and causes.

The clinician reviews your results, pregnancy plans, medicines, bleeding risks, and any previous cervical treatment. They should explain anaesthesia, possible cramping or bleeding, healing, and follow-up testing.
