When to worry about snoring with chronic sinusitis

Short answer
Snoring is a common presentation of Chronic Sinusitis, but repeated breathing pauses, choking during sleep, or severe daytime fatigue warrant medical review.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Observed pauses or choking during sleep should be discussed promptly.
Why sinus symptoms may affect sleep
Persistent inflammation and mucus can narrow the nasal passages. When air has difficulty moving through the nose at night, mouth breathing and throat vibration may become more noticeable. Facial pressure, reduced smell, post-nasal drainage, and a blocked nose may point toward ongoing sinus disease, but snoring can also arise independently.
Practical measures
Follow the sinus treatment plan provided by your clinician and use saline rinses only with safe water and clean equipment. Keep smoke and strong fragrances away from the bedroom, and note whether congestion is worse on one side or after lying down. A clinician can advise on nasal medicines and whether another cause needs checking.
When to seek care
Seek routine care when snoring continues with nasal obstruction, disturbed sleep, recurrent sinus symptoms, or daytime tiredness. Arrange prompt assessment if a partner sees pauses, gasping, or choking, or if morning headaches are frequent. Get urgent help for swelling around the eye, vision changes, confusion, or severe breathing difficulty.
Questions for your doctor
Is my nasal blockage adequately controlled? Could sleep apnoea be contributing? Would an ear, nose, and throat assessment or a sleep evaluation help explain the snoring?

Questions people ask

No. Sinus inflammation may contribute through nasal blockage, but snoring can have several causes.
Can a saline rinse help at night?
It may ease mucus and blockage for some people when used correctly; ask a clinician if it is suitable.
