What does headache feel like with sinusitis?

The discomfort may feel worse when bending forward or moving the head. A blocked or runny nose, reduced sense of smell, thick nasal mucus, facial tenderness, cough or fever can occur at the same time. Sinus symptoms often follow a cold, but a headache alone does not establish sinusitis; migraine and other conditions can also cause facial pain or nasal sensations.

Rest, drink fluids and use a warm compress over the face if it feels soothing. Saline nasal rinsing may help clear mucus when performed with safe, clean water and the equipment is kept hygienic. Use pain relief only as directed on the label or by a clinician, considering other medicines and health conditions. Ask a pharmacist before using a decongestant.

Arrange medical review if symptoms are severe, keep returning, or do not begin improving. Seek urgent help for swelling or redness around an eye, changes in vision, severe forehead swelling, confusion, a stiff neck, or a sudden unusually severe headache. Fever with marked deterioration also needs prompt assessment.
