A weakly positive result may mean the test has detected a small or borderline signal, but it does not establish the diagnosis on its own. Interpretation depends on when symptoms began, the test method, travel or mosquito exposure, and other findings such as a blood count. Dengue fever can present with fever, headache, muscle aches, joint pain, chills, or easy bruising, but symptoms overlap with other illnesses. A clinician may use a different test or repeat testing because the timing of a sample can affect what it shows.
