Short answer

You can reduce dengue risk by preventing mosquito bites, removing standing water, and seeking advice promptly if illness develops.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How dengue spreads

Dengue is spread by infected mosquitoes, so protection focuses on the places and times when bites can occur. Mosquitoes can breed in small collections of still water around homes, balconies, gardens, and workplaces. A person who becomes ill should also avoid further mosquito bites where possible, because mosquitoes may pick up the virus and spread it onward.

How to lower exposure

Use an insect repellent as directed, wear loose clothing that covers arms and legs, and use screens, air conditioning, or a bed net where appropriate. Empty, cover, or scrub containers that hold water, including plant saucers and buckets. Keep doors and windows screened when practical. Do not rely on one measure alone; combine personal protection with removing breeding sites. If you develop fever, headache, joint pain, muscle aches, chills, or unusual bruising after possible exposure, arrange medical advice and mention travel or local mosquito exposure.

When to seek care

Get prompt medical assessment for a high or persistent fever, severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, easy bruising, marked weakness, confusion, or difficulty breathing. Symptoms can worsen as a fever settles, so do not assume improvement means the risk has passed. Avoid taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory pain medicines unless a clinician advises them; ask what is suitable instead.
