What should you know about Vbeam for keloid scars?

A keloid is raised scar tissue that extends beyond the original injury. Vbeam targets blood vessels in the scar, so treatment is mainly aimed at colour, warmth, itch, or tenderness rather than instantly removing the raised tissue. A dermatologist may consider it after examining the scar and asking about its growth, previous procedures, skin tone, and symptoms.

Keloids can follow acne, piercing, surgery, burns, or minor skin injury. A skin lump that changes quickly, bleeds, or has an uncertain cause needs assessment rather than cosmetic laser treatment.

Before treatment, disclose recent tanning, active skin infection, cold sores, medicines that increase light sensitivity, and any history of difficult scarring. The clinician may combine Vbeam with an intralesional steroid injection or another approach when the scar is thick or symptomatic.
