What to know about varicella immunization

Vaccination prepares immune defenses without requiring a person to experience natural chickenpox. Protection is not the same as treatment for an established rash, and a vaccine decision depends on age, previous infection, documented doses, immune health and pregnancy status. A vaccinated person who develops a rash should still ask for clinical advice.
