Vaginal pimples: what to know

The vagina is an internal canal; pimple-like bumps are more often noticed on the hair-bearing vulva or nearby groin skin. A blocked pore may form a small whitehead or tender spot. Shaving and friction can inflame follicles, a pattern called Folliculitis or Razor Bumps. Hormonal changes can influence acne in some people. Cysts, irritation, sexually transmitted infections, and other lesions can look similar, so location, pain, discharge, and duration matter.

Wash gently with lukewarm water, keep the area dry, and choose breathable underwear. Avoid squeezing or popping the bump, scrubbing, douching, and fragranced sprays. Pause shaving or waxing over irritated skin. A warm compress may soothe a tender follicle. Do not apply facial acne products, steroid creams, or antiseptics to vulval tissue without professional advice. If outbreaks repeat, a clinician can assess for acne, folliculitis, or another condition and discuss suitable treatment; LED Light Therapy is not a substitute for diagnosis.

Arrange an appointment if a bump lasts, keeps returning, becomes firm, or is accompanied by unusual discharge, sores, or pain with urination. Seek prompt care for rapidly spreading redness, severe swelling, pus, fever, or feeling unwell. A new lump near the vaginal opening or a cluster of blisters deserves examination rather than home acne treatment.
