A diode laser produces light from a semiconductor. In dermatology, the selected wavelength, pulse settings, spot size, and cooling approach determine which tissue absorbs the energy. Many diode systems are discussed in connection with hair reduction, while ultraviolet devices belong to a different part of the light spectrum and require careful control. A label or online search alone cannot establish that a device is suitable for your skin, hair colour, condition, or treatment goal. Ask the provider to identify the exact device and wavelength.

Choose a qualified medical provider and describe recent tanning, pigment changes, scarring, cold sores, medicines, and previous reactions to light-based procedures. Follow instructions about shaving, avoiding irritants, and sun protection. During treatment, protective eyewear should match the device. Afterward, keep the area cool, avoid friction and strong heat, and follow the supplied skin-care plan. Mild warmth or temporary redness can occur, but increasing discomfort deserves advice.

Contact the treating clinic promptly for severe pain, expanding redness, marked swelling, blisters, crusting, colour change, or discharge. Eye pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity, or an accidental eye exposure needs urgent medical assessment. Do not continue sessions until a clinician has reviewed a significant reaction and confirmed the device and settings used.

Ask what wavelength the device emits, what it is intended to treat, how your skin tone changes the settings, what eye protection is used, and which symptoms should trigger a same-day call.
