Type 1 diabetes symptoms

When insulin is lacking, glucose remains in the bloodstream instead of entering cells for energy. The kidneys remove more glucose with water, leading to Excessive Thirst and Frequent Urination. Children may begin Bedwetting after being dry at night. Tiredness, hunger, blurred vision and unexplained weight loss can accompany the change.

Symptoms may overlap with other conditions, and some people have few early clues. A clinician can check a blood or urine sample and decide what assessment is needed. Type 1 diabetes can develop in children, teenagers or adults.

Arrange prompt medical assessment if several symptoms occur together, especially if they are worsening. Do not try to diagnose yourself from a home reading alone. If type 1 diabetes is confirmed, learn insulin use, glucose monitoring, meal planning and sick-day actions through your care team or a Diabetes Education Programme.

Go to urgent care for vomiting, abdominal pain, deep or rapid breathing, fruity-smelling breath, severe weakness, confusion or unusual sleepiness. These can signal dangerous glucose imbalance. A person who is unconscious, having a seizure, or unable to swallow needs emergency help; do not give food or drink by mouth.

Ask which tests are needed, how quickly results will be available, what symptoms require emergency care, and how insulin and glucose checks will be taught if diabetes is diagnosed.
