Trigonitis seen during cystoscopy

The trigone is the smooth triangular area between the ureter openings and the bladder outlet. During cystoscopy, this lining may look red, thickened, or different from nearby tissue. The appearance can be associated with irritation, repeated urinary symptoms, infection, or hormonal influences. A camera view cannot always distinguish inflammation from other bladder changes.

The urologist may take a biopsy if the appearance is uncertain, persistent, or accompanied by blood in the urine or other concerning findings. A pathology result, urine tests, symptoms, and any earlier scans provide more information than the visual description alone.

Ask whether a biopsy or urine sample was taken, when results are expected, and whether treatment is needed for infection or irritation. Drink fluids according to your clinician's advice, and follow instructions about medicines after the procedure. Record burning, urgency, frequency, pelvic discomfort, or visible blood so changes are easy to describe.

If symptoms continue, the urologist may review urine testing, medication triggers, bladder habits, and the pathology report. Trigonitis does not automatically require cancer treatment, but unexplained findings should be followed through.

After cystoscopy, seek urgent care for inability to pass urine, heavy or persistent bleeding, clots blocking the stream, fever with chills, severe worsening pain, vomiting, or feeling faint. Contact the urology team promptly if burning or blood is not settling as expected.
