Trichomoniasis may cause vaginal discharge, itching, irritation, soreness, burning with urination, or discomfort during sex, although some people have no symptoms. Vaginal discharge and vaginal itching can also be caused by other conditions, so symptoms cannot confirm trichomoniasis. A clinician may use a swab or urine test and consider other infections. Your maternity team can weigh the test result, symptoms, pregnancy stage, and available treatment options.

Tell your obstetric or midwifery team about a positive result, symptoms, or a partner's diagnosis. Follow the prescribed plan and attend any requested follow-up. Current or recent partners may need assessment or treatment, and avoiding sex until the team gives clear advice helps reduce reinfection. Do not douche or use over-the-counter vaginal products without checking first. Keep a note of the medicine name and any reaction you experience.

Contact your maternity team promptly for unusual discharge, vaginal irritation, pelvic pain, painful urination, bleeding, fever, fluid leakage, or regular tightening. Seek urgent assessment for severe pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, or feeling seriously unwell. These warning signs need assessment regardless of whether trichomoniasis is confirmed.
