TRESemmé anti-dandruff products: what to know

Dandruff causes visible scalp flaking, sometimes with itch or mild irritation. Seborrheic dermatitis can produce more persistent flaking, redness, or greasy scale and may also affect the eyebrows, ears, or sides of the nose. Product residue, contact irritation, psoriasis, and other scalp conditions can look similar. A brand label alone does not confirm which problem is present; check the active ingredient and how your scalp responds.

Follow the product directions and work the shampoo through the scalp rather than only the hair lengths. Leave it on for the directed contact time, rinse well, and avoid getting it in the eyes. Use a gentle conditioner on the lengths if needed. Stop and seek advice if burning, swelling, a spreading rash, or worsening irritation occurs. If a cosmetic shampoo does not control symptoms, a clinician may recommend medicated shampoo treatment or topical antifungal treatment.

Arrange a review if flaking persists despite careful use, causes thick plaques, leads to hair loss, or extends beyond the scalp. Prompt advice is needed for pus, marked pain, fever, or a tender swollen scalp. Severe swelling of the face or breathing difficulty after a product needs urgent care.
