Trekk anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis can affect breathing, circulation, skin, the gut, or more than one body system. Possible signs include sudden swelling of the lips or tongue, throat tightness, wheezing, difficulty breathing, widespread hives, repeated vomiting, dizziness, or collapse. Food Allergy is one possible trigger, but medicines, insect stings, and other exposures can also cause a reaction. Symptoms can progress quickly, and a person may not have every sign.

Use the person's prescribed adrenaline auto-injector immediately if anaphylaxis is suspected, following its instructions, and call emergency services. Lay the person down with legs raised unless breathing is difficult; then allow a comfortable sitting position. Do not let them stand or walk. If symptoms continue and a second prescribed device is available, follow the emergency plan. Anaphylaxis Emergency Treatment must not be delayed while waiting for antihistamines to work.

Every suspected anaphylactic reaction needs emergency assessment, even if symptoms improve after adrenaline. Symptoms can return, so stay with the person and follow the emergency team's observation advice. Seek immediate help for breathing difficulty, faintness, throat swelling, rapidly spreading hives with vomiting, or any collapse. After recovery, arrange Allergy Testing and an allergy review to identify triggers and create a written action plan.

Ask which triggers are suspected, how and when to use each auto-injector, whether you should carry more than one, how to train family or colleagues, and what should be recorded in your emergency plan.
