Tiredness after IUI: what should you know?

Short answer
Tiredness after IUI may follow treatment, disrupted sleep or emotional strain, but severe or persistent symptoms need clinical advice.

What tiredness after IUI can mean
Intrauterine insemination is often accompanied by monitoring, appointments and medicines that can affect how you feel. Worry and disrupted sleep during the waiting period may also drain energy. Tiredness can occur in early pregnancy, but it cannot confirm pregnancy; a test at the time advised by your fertility team is more useful. Anaemia, dehydration, COVID-19 or other unrelated conditions can also cause fatigue. Alcohol-related illness, Coeliac Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease, Burnout and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are additional possibilities when symptoms continue, though they require a wider assessment.
What you can do now
Follow the fertility team’s instructions for medicines and testing, drink regularly, eat simple balanced meals and allow gentle activity with rest. Keep a record of tiredness, pain, bleeding, fever, medication timing and fluid intake. Avoid changing prescribed treatment or taking new supplements without checking first. Contact the clinic if fatigue is interfering with normal activity or you are unsure whether a symptom relates to treatment.
When to seek care
Contact your fertility clinic promptly for severe pelvic pain, increasing abdominal swelling, heavy bleeding, fever, repeated vomiting, faintness, marked breathlessness or a rapid deterioration. Seek emergency help for collapse, severe breathing difficulty, chest pain or confusion. These warning signs need assessment regardless of whether pregnancy is possible.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your medicines, procedure timing or another illness could explain the fatigue. Confirm when to test for pregnancy and which symptoms should trigger a same-day call. Mention bleeding, pelvic discomfort, sleep, mood, fluid intake, other medicines and any history of Anaemia or dehydration.

No. Fatigue can have several explanations, including medicines, stress, poor sleep or unrelated illness; use the testing plan from your fertility team.
Should I stop my fertility medicines because I feel tired?
Do not stop prescribed treatment without speaking with the fertility clinic, which can review the symptom and advise on safe next steps.
