Tiny Red Blood Spots on the Arms: When to Check Them

Bright red, smooth spots that remain stable can differ from pinpoint bleeding beneath the skin. Spots that do not fade when pressed, appear suddenly in many places, or accompany easy bruising need medical assessment. A raised, itchy spot may reflect irritation, while a bleeding or crusted lesion has a different concern. Describe new medicines, recent illness, injury, intense scratching, and whether the spots are spreading. A photograph can help show change over time.

Do not scratch, squeeze, scrape, or attempt to remove the spots. Note when they appeared, whether they blanch with gentle pressure, and whether new areas are involved. Check for bruising, nose or gum bleeding, fever, dizziness, or unusual tiredness. Avoid starting medicines or supplements for the spots without advice, and arrange a clinical review if the cause is unclear or the appearance is changing.

Seek urgent medical care if the spots appear rapidly, do not fade with pressure, or occur with fever, severe headache, confusion, breathing trouble, faintness, widespread bruising, or bleeding elsewhere. A changing single spot, persistent bleeding, ulceration, or a sore that does not heal also needs prompt dermatology assessment.

Ask whether the spots are within the skin or from surface irritation, whether medicines or recent illness could contribute, whether tests are needed, and which changes should trigger urgent review.
