This can injure the cancer cell's DNA while reducing radiation exposure farther away. Suitability depends on the cancer type, the target found on the tumour, previous treatments, blood counts, kidney function and overall health.

Treatment may involve an infusion or injection followed by observation and follow-up tests. The care team may monitor blood cells, kidney function and symptoms between treatment visits. The exact schedule and precautions depend on the medicine used.

Bring a list of medicines, supplements, allergies and previous cancer treatments. Ask which scans or laboratory tests are needed before treatment and how to manage fluids, activity and contact with other people afterward. Follow the radiation-safety instructions closely, including advice about toileting, hygiene and handling body fluids if provided. Keep every follow-up appointment so treatment response and side effects can be reviewed.

Contact the oncology team promptly for fever, chills, unusual bruising or bleeding, worsening weakness, persistent vomiting, reduced urine, or new severe pain. Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, confusion, collapse or bleeding that does not stop. These symptoms can have causes other than treatment, but they need timely assessment.
