Tanning stretch marks before and after: what to know

Stretch marks may look lighter or darker as the surrounding skin tans, fades, or becomes irritated. A change in camera distance, flash, angle, skin moisture, or muscle position can alter the appearance of width and texture. Temporary redness after a procedure can also make a later image look different from the final settled result.

A useful comparison shows the same body area, similar lighting, matching distance and angle, and a clear time point after the skin has recovered. Even then, a photograph cannot show texture as reliably as an examination, and it cannot predict how another person will respond.

Avoid tanning while comparing progress and protect the area from ultraviolet exposure. Take private reference images in consistent lighting, without filters, and record the date and any recent procedure or product. Do not judge a result while the skin is swollen, crusted, or actively peeling.

Ask a dermatologist to assess colour, indentation, texture, and maturity separately.
