What should you know about t1 pedicle screw?

T1 is the first vertebra in the thoracic, or upper-back, region. A pedicle screw passes through a small bony bridge called the pedicle and connects with rods or other hardware. The construct can help hold alignment while fusion develops or while a spinal problem is treated. Its use depends on anatomy, bone quality, the spinal level involved, and the operation's goals; it is not a treatment for every upper-back problem.

Before surgery, ask how the screw will be positioned and whether navigation or imaging will guide placement. Share information about osteoporosis, previous spine surgery, medicines, and neurological symptoms. After surgery, follow lifting and wound-care instructions, attend imaging or review appointments, and complete the recommended rehabilitation plan. Do not change activity because pain improves without clearance.

Contact the surgical team promptly for increasing wound redness, drainage, fever, new severe pain, or a clicking or shifting sensation. Seek emergency care for new weakness, numbness, loss of coordination, trouble walking, or loss of bladder or bowel control.
