Why are my palms sweaty when cold?

Sweat glands respond to nerve signals, not only to warm weather. Some people therefore notice damp palms during tension or temperature changes while the rest of the body feels cold. Compare both hands and note colour change, numbness, pain, shaking, dizziness, or sweating elsewhere. General sweating can accompany conditions such as thyroid overactivity or low blood sugar, while heat exhaustion and sleep-related breathing problems have their own patterns. Cold-associated palm sweating by itself does not diagnose a condition.

Warm the hands gradually, dry them well, and use gloves that allow moisture to escape. Keep a record of episodes, including meals, exercise, stress, medicines, and whether fingers change colour. If the pattern is frequent or disruptive, ask about a palm antiperspirant or iontophoresis. Botulinum toxin may be considered in some cases after a clinician assesses the cause, skin, and treatment goals.

Seek medical advice for new or worsening episodes, one-sided symptoms, persistent numbness or pain, marked colour change, or sweating with palpitations, tremor, confusion, fainting, fever, or breathing difficulty. Emergency help is appropriate for chest pain, collapse, severe weakness, or confusion. These warning features call for assessment because urgency depends on the accompanying symptom, not on how common sweating is.

Ask whether circulation, nerve signals, medicines, or a broader health issue could explain the pattern; ask what to record and which treatment is safe in cold, dry, or irritated skin.
