What should you know about super oily skin?

Short answer
Super oily skin usually reflects excess sebum, and gentle cleansing, light moisturising and targeted treatment can reduce shine without damaging the skin barrier.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What very oily skin can mean
Sebum helps protect the skin, but increased production can leave the face shiny, make pores look more noticeable and contribute to blackheads or spots when oil mixes with dead skin cells. Hormonal changes, heat, humidity, stress and some medicines can influence oiliness. Oily skin can also become dehydrated or irritated after harsh scrubbing, alcohol-heavy products or repeated washing. Oily skin is a common presentation of acne, while hormonal acne may follow a recurring pattern around hormonal changes. Flaking or redness beside the nose, eyebrows or scalp can occur with seborrheic dermatitis.
Steps that can help
Wash with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser in the morning and evening, and after heavy sweating. Choose non-comedogenic moisturiser and sunscreen with a light texture; skipping moisturiser can increase tightness and irritation. Blotting papers can remove surface shine without rubbing. Introduce one active product at a time, such as salicylic acid, and stop if burning or persistent peeling develops. A dermatologist can tailor treatment for acne, persistent oiliness or inflamed areas; isotretinoin treatment is reserved for selected cases and requires medical supervision.
When to seek care
Arrange a dermatology assessment for painful deep spots, scarring, sudden major change, widespread rash, or oiliness that is affecting sleep, work or confidence. Seek urgent help for facial swelling with trouble breathing, throat tightness, faintness or rapidly worsening symptoms.
Questions for your doctor
Could a medicine, hormonal change or skin condition be contributing? Which cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen fit my skin? Should I use an acne active, and how often? How will we protect my skin barrier while treating shine?

Questions people ask
Does oily skin need moisturiser?
Yes. A light, non-comedogenic moisturiser can reduce dryness and irritation while you manage surface oil.
Can oily skin be linked with acne?
Yes. Extra sebum can mix with dead skin cells and contribute to blocked pores and acne, but oily skin alone does not diagnose acne.
