What should you know about super dark yellow urine?

Urine becomes more strongly yellow when it contains less water. Sweating in hot weather, exercise, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, or simply drinking less can cause this concentration. Vitamins and some medicines can also alter urine colour. Very dark yellow is different from brown, tea-coloured, red, or cola-coloured urine, which may need a different evaluation. The colour alone cannot identify the cause, so note changes in your health and urine output.

If you are alert and able to drink, take regular small amounts of water or an appropriate oral rehydration drink, especially after fluid loss. Rest somewhere cool if heat or sweating contributed. Watch whether urine becomes lighter and whether you are passing it normally. Avoid relying on colour alone if you have kidney, heart, or liver disease; ask your clinician how much fluid is suitable. Do not alter prescribed medicines without advice.

Arrange medical review if the dark yellow colour persists after restoring fluids, keeps returning, or comes with pain, fever, burning, vomiting, unusual tiredness, or swelling. Seek urgent help for confusion, fainting, inability to keep fluids down, very little urine, yellow eyes or skin, severe abdominal pain, or urine that becomes brown or red. Dehydration and Heat Exhaustion can worsen quickly when fluid loss continues.
