Sun stroke sickness

Overheating and fluid loss can cause nausea, headache, thirst, weakness, dizziness, sweating, or muscle cramps. Heat exhaustion may worsen if the person remains in a hot environment. Sickness can also come from infection, food illness, medication effects, or another condition, so the context and accompanying signs matter. Reduced alertness is especially concerning because it can mean the body is no longer regulating heat safely.

Stop activity and move to a cool, shaded or air-conditioned place. Loosen clothing, cool the skin with damp cloths, and rest. If fully awake and able to swallow, take small sips of water or an oral rehydration drink. Avoid large gulps if nauseated. Do not force fluids, offer alcohol, or leave the person alone. If vomiting prevents drinking, contact medical services rather than continuing home care.

Call emergency services for confusion, fainting, seizure, unusual drowsiness, severe weakness, breathing difficulty, or a very hot body. Seek prompt assessment for repeated vomiting, inability to drink, worsening headache, or symptoms that fail to improve after cooling. Sudden one-sided weakness, facial drooping, or speech trouble needs urgent assessment for Stroke, even if the person was in the sun beforehand.

Ask whether another illness or medicine could explain the sickness, how to replace fluids safely, and what precautions to use during future hot days.
