Sun stroke headache treatment

Heat, sweating, dehydration, bright light, and muscle tension can all contribute to a headache. Heat exhaustion may occur with heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, or cramps. A headache can also accompany an infection, sinus problem, or another condition, so the setting alone does not establish the cause. Confusion, fainting, poor coordination, or a change in behaviour suggests more serious heat illness rather than a routine headache.

Stop activity and rest in a cool, quiet place. Loosen clothing, place a cool damp cloth on the neck or skin, and sip water gradually if you are alert and not vomiting. Avoid alcohol and further sun exposure. Do not drive if dizzy or confused. A pharmacist or clinician can advise whether a usual pain medicine is suitable, especially if you have kidney disease, stomach problems, take other medicines, or may be dehydrated.

Seek emergency care for a sudden severe headache, confusion, fainting, seizure, repeated vomiting, weakness, trouble speaking, breathing difficulty, or inability to drink. Get medical advice if cooling and rest do not improve symptoms or if fever, rash, or worsening illness develops. Heat Exhaustion can progress, and dehydration may need assessment when urine is very dark or urination becomes infrequent.
