How to remove sun spots on the face

Sun spots, also called solar lentigines, are flat tan, brown, or darker marks linked with repeated ultraviolet exposure. They often appear on the forehead, cheeks, nose, and other exposed areas. They are different from general uneven tone because an individual spot has a clearer edge and remains in a defined area. A clinician may examine the mark closely before discussing cosmetic treatment.

Use broad-spectrum sun protection, shade, and a hat to limit further darkening. Do not pick, scrub, or apply strong bleaching products without guidance. Depending on the diagnosis and your skin tone, a clinician may discuss a chemical peel, IPL photofacial, picosecond laser treatment, or cryotherapy for lesion removal. These options differ in how they target pigment and in the aftercare they require.

Arrange a skin assessment if a spot is new, changing in size, shape, or colour, becoming raised, bleeding, crusting, itching persistently, or failing to heal. A changing mark should be identified before cosmetic treatment, because not every dark facial spot is a sun spot.
