What should you know about stye under bottom eyelid?

The bottom eyelid contains eyelashes and oil glands, so a stye can form on its outer edge or on the inner surface. You may notice a sore point, swelling, watering, crusting, or a small lump that rubs against the eye. A lower-lid stye can feel prominent because blinking moves the swollen tissue across the eye surface. A firm, less painful lump that lingers may be a blocked gland rather than ongoing infection or inflammation. The position alone cannot confirm the diagnosis.

Wash your hands, close the eye, and hold a clean comfortably warm cloth against the lower lid for several minutes. Repeat this through the day using a freshly cleaned cloth. Wipe any discharge gently from the inner corner outward with clean water; avoid rubbing the eye. Stop contact lenses and eye makeup until the area feels normal. Do not pull down the lid repeatedly to inspect it, squeeze the lump, or pierce it. A pharmacist or clinician can advise about an eye medicine if warmth and hygiene are not enough.

Arrange a GP Consultation if swelling persists, recurs, becomes larger, or affects how the eyelid closes. Seek urgent help if vision changes, pain is severe, light is very uncomfortable, fever develops, eye movement hurts, or redness and swelling spread around the eye. Eye Discharge or Red Eye that is marked or persistent should not automatically be attributed to the lower-lid lump.
