Stretching exercises for trigger finger

Short answer
Trigger finger exercises should be gentle and pain-limited, with assessment if catching, locking, or stiffness persists.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What is happening
Trigger finger develops when a flexor tendon and the tissue guiding it through the palm do not glide smoothly. You may notice tenderness near the base of a finger, stiffness on waking, clicking, or a finger that catches as it bends and straightens. Stretching cannot force a narrowed tendon pathway to open, so aggressive pulling may increase irritation. Finger Stiffness can have other causes; Trigger Finger explains the pattern more fully.
Gentle movement plan
With the hand relaxed, slowly open and close the fingers within a comfortable range. You can also make a soft hook shape, then return to an open hand, keeping the movement smooth rather than squeezing hard. Warm water may make motion easier. Avoid repeatedly gripping tools, carrying heavy bags, or forcing a locked finger straight. A clinician may suggest Splinting to reduce aggravating movement. If symptoms continue, options may include a Cortisone Injection or Trigger Finger Release, depending on examination findings.
When to seek care
Book an assessment if the finger regularly locks, symptoms interfere with work or sleep, swelling develops, or home movements are not helping. Seek prompt care if the finger becomes suddenly deformed, pale, blue, numb, or impossible to move after an injury.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the tendon is catching, which exercises fit your hand, whether a night splint could help, and when an injection or release procedure should be considered.

Questions people ask
Can exercises cure trigger finger?
They may maintain movement and reduce aggravation, but persistent catching may need treatment directed at the tendon pathway.
Should I stretch a locked finger?
Do not force it straight. Relax the hand and arrange an assessment if locking recurs or remains fixed.
