How long does stomach flu last?

Short answer
Stomach flu usually settles over several days, although tiredness, reduced appetite, or altered bowel habits can last longer.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Understanding the course
Stomach flu is a common name for gastroenteritis, an irritation of the stomach and intestines. Vomiting often improves before diarrhoea, while appetite and energy may return gradually. The timing varies with the virus, age, general health, and how much fluid has been lost.
Symptoms may include nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, fever, and loss of appetite. Rotavirus infection is one possible cause. Ongoing symptoms do not automatically identify the cause, particularly if there is no clear exposure to another unwell person.
Supporting recovery
Take frequent small sips of water or an oral rehydration drink, especially after vomiting or a loose stool. Once fluids stay down, try small portions of plain, familiar foods and return to a normal diet as appetite permits. Rest, wash hands with soap and water, and clean bathroom surfaces. Avoid preparing food for others while symptoms continue.
When symptoms need review
Arrange medical advice if symptoms are not improving, keep returning, or prevent normal drinking and eating. Seek urgent help for severe abdominal pain, blood in vomit or stool, confusion, fainting, very little urine, or inability to keep fluids down. Babies, older adults, pregnant people, and those with long-term conditions can become dehydrated more quickly and should be assessed earlier.
Questions for your doctor
Ask how to replace fluid losses, when it is reasonable to return to work or school, and whether another condition could explain persistent diarrhoea or pain. Share the start of symptoms, frequency of vomiting or stools, fever, urine changes, and any recent travel or sick contacts.
