Spots on chest from sun: what they may mean

Flat tan, brown, or darker areas that developed gradually can follow repeated ultraviolet exposure and may become more noticeable after tanning. Rough, scaly, bleeding, tender, or rapidly changing marks deserve a clinician’s review rather than self-treatment. Small red or skin-coloured bumps around hairs can instead reflect sweat, friction, blocked follicles, or folliculitis. Pimples on the chest may also occur with acne, especially when clothing, exercise, or oily products trap heat. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen on exposed chest skin and reapply as directed, while choosing clothing that reduces direct sun.
