Heat, sweat, bra friction, shaving, and fragranced products can irritate breast skin and follicles. Small red or pus-filled bumps may fit Folliculitis; blocked pores may fit Acne. A rash under the breast can be worsened by moisture and rubbing. The nipple and areola have specialised skin, so a new scaly, crusted, bleeding, retracted, or one-sided change should be examined rather than treated as an ordinary spot.

Keep the area cool and dry, change out of damp clothing, and choose a well-fitting breathable bra. Wash with lukewarm water and a mild fragrance-free cleanser, then pat dry. Arrange prompt assessment for a new nipple discharge, persistent crusting, bleeding, ulceration, a lump, skin dimpling, nipple inversion, or a rash that does not settle.
