What should you know about solera pedicle screws?

A pedicle screw is placed through the pedicle, a strong bridge of bone at the back of a vertebra. Several screws can connect with rods, helping maintain alignment while the operated spinal segment heals or remains supported. Solera refers to a specific system rather than a diagnosis. The screws may be used in procedures such as spinal fusion or selected scoliosis surgery, depending on the anatomy and surgical plan. They do not by themselves remove every source of back or leg symptoms.

Ask the surgical team which levels will be treated, why fixation is recommended, and whether bone graft or decompression is part of the operation. Follow movement, wound, lifting, and rehabilitation instructions after surgery; the safe pace depends on the procedure and your health. Keep a record of new leg pain, weakness, numbness, wound drainage, or fever. Do not change prescribed medicines or activity limits without contacting the team.

Contact the surgical team promptly for increasing wound redness, drainage, fever, or pain that changes sharply. Seek urgent help for new or worsening leg weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, severe difficulty walking, or breathing problems. A new symptom does not prove that a screw has moved, but it should be assessed without delay.
