Short answer

Snoring with CPAP can signal mask leakage, blocked airflow, an unsuitable setting, or another issue, so contact your sleep team for a review.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why snoring may continue

CPAP is intended to hold the upper airway open, but sound may continue if the mask does not seal, the tubing is loose, or the device is not delivering air as intended. Nasal congestion from allergic rhinitis or chronic sinusitis can make treatment uncomfortable and encourage mouth breathing. Ongoing snoring may also mean the settings, mask type, or diagnosis needs checking. It does not show by itself that treatment has failed.

Check the setup safely

Check that the mask sits comfortably, the tubing is connected, and the air filter is maintained according to the device instructions. Notice whether the noise comes from the mask, mouth, or throat, and record dryness, leaks, awakenings, or blocked-nose symptoms. Do not change pressure settings or stop CPAP without advice. Contact the prescribing team, especially if the machine reports leaks or you remain tired despite using it.

When to seek care

Arrange a prompt review for repeated snoring, frequent mask removal, choking, witnessed pauses, worsening daytime sleepiness, or morning headaches while using CPAP. Seek urgent help for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, blue or grey lips, or confusion. Bring the device or its data summary if your clinic requests it.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether the leak data, mask fit, humidification, nasal symptoms, or pressure settings could explain the sound. Ask whether the device is controlling breathing events and whether a repeat assessment or different mask is appropriate.

Questions people ask

Should I stop CPAP if I still snore?

Do not stop prescribed CPAP without advice; contact the sleep team so they can check the equipment, data, and treatment plan.

Can a blocked nose affect CPAP?

Yes. Nasal swelling or mucus can make airflow uncomfortable and contribute to mouth breathing or continued noise.
