Small White Pimple Under the Eye: What to Know

The thin skin beneath the eye reacts easily to rubbing, heavy creams, makeup, and some hair or skin products. A white-tipped spot can occur when oil and dead skin collect in a pore. A firm, pearly bump that does not behave like an inflamed spot may be milia rather than acne. Several itchy, burning, or scaly bumps can point toward irritation or dermatitis. Acne is one possible cause, while folliculitis can affect hair follicles. Appearance alone cannot confirm the diagnosis.

Wash the area with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, keeping it away from the eye itself. Pause new eye creams, oily products, and makeup around the bump. Do not squeeze, pierce, scrub, or use strong acne acids beneath the eye; these actions can injure delicate skin. Use clean hands and a fresh towel, and avoid rubbing. If the bump persists, a dermatologist can identify it and discuss an appropriate removal or treatment method.

Arrange medical care if the area becomes painful, hot, markedly swollen, crusted, or rapidly changes. Seek urgent assessment for eye pain, vision changes, swelling that closes the eye, or redness spreading around the eye. A persistent or recurrent bump also deserves review, especially if it bleeds or does not resemble your usual spots.

Ask whether the bump looks like acne, milia, folliculitis, or contact irritation; which products should be stopped; and whether any treatment is safe near the eye.
