Small red ring on skin: possible causes

Heat Rash tends to cause clusters of prickly bumps rather than one defined ring. Psoriasis can create sharply bordered, scaly plaques, and Rosacea usually affects the central face rather than an isolated limb. Cellulitis more often causes an expanding area of warmth, tenderness, and swelling than a neat ring. Sunburn follows recent ultraviolet exposure and may feel hot or sore. The visual pattern alone cannot confirm a diagnosis; note where it began and how quickly it changes.

Wash gently, keep the area dry, and avoid rubbing, fragranced products, and unprescribed steroid creams until the cause is clearer. Do not share towels, clothing, or sports equipment if a fungal infection is possible. Take a dated photograph and outline the edge lightly to help track spread; do not use this as a substitute for care if symptoms are severe.
