Small Red Dots on the Skin

Contact Dermatitis may follow a new product or material and often itches. Heat Rash appears where sweat collects, while Sunburn brings warmth, tenderness, or peeling after exposure. Rosacea commonly affects facial skin with flushing or sensitivity. Psoriasis may form persistent scaly plaques. Cellulitis is different: it usually causes a spreading area of warmth, swelling, and tenderness rather than a few stable dots. Skin Redness can describe the visible change without identifying its cause. Location, blanching when pressed, scale, pain, and speed of spread are useful observations.

Cool overheated skin, rinse away suspected irritants, and use a plain moisturiser on dry areas. Protect exposed skin from further sun and avoid rubbing, picking, fragranced products, and very hot water. Take a photograph in consistent light and note new medicines, cosmetics, detergents, plants, or activities. Keep the area clean and dry if the surface is broken.

Obtain urgent help for trouble breathing, facial swelling, faintness, rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, fever, confusion, or a painful hot area. Same-day assessment is sensible when red dots are accompanied by marked swelling, pus, red streaks, or feeling unwell. Arrange routine care for persistent, recurrent, changing, or unexplained spots.

Ask what the distribution suggests, whether the spots fade under pressure, which exposures to avoid, whether treatment is needed, and what specific change should trigger urgent review.
