What should you know about small red blisters on your skin?

Blisters can form when the upper skin layers separate and fluid collects between them. Contact Dermatitis may cause itchy blisters after exposure to an irritant or allergen. Heat Rash can produce tiny fluid-filled bumps in sweaty, occluded areas, while Sunburn can blister after substantial ultraviolet exposure. Rosacea and Psoriasis may cause redness but are less typical explanations for true fluid-filled blisters. Redness with increasing warmth, swelling, tenderness, or pus can be a presentation of Cellulitis and needs assessment.

Do not pop, peel, or puncture the blisters. Gently cleanse, pat dry, cover with a clean non-stick dressing if rubbing is likely, and keep the area protected from heat and sun. Avoid applying alcohol, harsh antiseptics, or several new products. Wash hands before and after touching the area, and do not share towels. Arrange clinical advice if the cause is unclear, the blisters are widespread, or they appeared after a new medicine or product.

Get urgent help for blisters with breathing difficulty, facial swelling, faintness, widespread skin peeling, or sores involving the mouth, eyes, or genitals. Seek same-day care for fever, severe pain, rapidly spreading redness, pus, marked swelling, or blisters after a significant burn. Do not delay assessment when a new medicine may be involved.

Ask what triggered the blisters, whether they should remain covered, how to manage pain or itch safely, and which changes indicate infection or a serious reaction.
