What should you know about small red bites on your skin?

True bites often itch and may appear in exposed areas or clusters, but a bite-like appearance is not specific. Contact Dermatitis can follow contact with a product, plant, or material. Heat Rash may occur where sweat is trapped. Rosacea usually affects facial skin and can cause persistent redness, while Sunburn follows ultraviolet exposure. Psoriasis can create defined, scaly red plaques. Skin Redness that becomes hot, swollen, tender, or rapidly enlarges can be a presentation of Cellulitis, which needs medical assessment.

Wash gently, use a cool compress, and avoid scratching. Photograph the marks and note where you were, new products, outdoor exposure, pets, travel, and whether anyone else has similar symptoms. Keep nails short and do not apply several new creams at once. If the trigger may be an irritant, stop that product and protect the skin from further exposure. A clinician can assess persistent marks; cosmetic redness treatments such as IPL Photofacial are not a substitute for diagnosing an active rash.

Seek emergency help for breathing trouble, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, or a rapidly spreading reaction. Get same-day medical advice if redness is hot and painful, expanding, associated with fever, or producing pus, or if red-purple spots do not fade when pressed. Arrange review when marks persist, recur without a clear trigger, or affect the eyes.
