What should you know about skin tags on anus?

An anal skin tag is a flap of extra skin at the anal opening. It can remain after a previous swollen haemorrhoid settles, or become irritated by wiping, moisture and friction. Anal fissures, haemorrhoids, warts and other conditions can also cause a lump or discomfort, so do not diagnose it from shape alone.

Rinse gently after bowel movements, pat rather than scrub, and keep the area dry. Avoid picking, cutting or applying wart chemicals. Prevent constipation with fluids and fibre if suitable for you, since straining can aggravate anal discomfort.
