Siemens Mammography

During a mammogram, each breast is positioned and briefly compressed between plates while images are taken. Compression spreads breast tissue and helps reduce movement, although it can feel uncomfortable. Siemens is a manufacturer name, not a diagnosis or a separate type of breast disease. The radiology team reviews the images and may compare them with earlier scans.

Tell the imaging team if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have breast implants, or have a new breast symptom. On the day, avoid deodorant, powder, or lotion on the breast and underarm area if your centre advises this, since some products can affect the images. Wear clothing that is easy to remove from the waist up and mention any tenderness so positioning can be adjusted.

A mammogram result may lead to additional views, ultrasound, MRI, or a biopsy; that recommendation does not by itself confirm cancer. Seek clinical assessment for a new lump, nipple discharge that is bloody, skin dimpling, nipple inversion, or a persistent change, even if a previous scan was reassuring.

Ask whether 2D or 3D imaging is planned, when results will be available, how prior images will be compared, and whether ultrasound or MRI adds useful information for your breast tissue.
