What should you know about second normal delivery after first c section?

Contact the maternity unit urgently for vaginal bleeding, waters breaking, reduced fetal movement, regular contractions or persistent abdominal pain. After a previous caesarean, sudden severe pain or tenderness over the scar needs immediate assessment.

Call emergency services for collapse, heavy bleeding, severe breathing difficulty or an imminent birth. The safest response depends on your pregnancy plan, so keep the unit’s instructions accessible.

Ask whether the uterine scar is suitable for planned vaginal birth, how labour will be monitored, whether induction is appropriate, what pain relief is available, and how quickly a caesarean could be performed if required. Ask when you should come to hospital.
