Sebaceous Hyperplasia Treatment

Treatment targets enlarged sebaceous glands rather than an infection. A dermatologist may identify the typical smooth bump and central indentation, while checking for features that suggest another diagnosis. Some people choose observation because the lesions are harmless; others seek treatment because bumps are visible, catch on clothing or are repeatedly irritated.

During consultation, discuss the location, number and skin type, along with any history of raised scars or pigment changes. Electrosurgery uses controlled heat to treat a selected bump. CO2 laser resurfacing uses laser energy to remove superficial tissue and may be considered for suitable areas. Healing can involve temporary redness, crusting or colour change. Follow wound-care and sun-protection instructions, and never remove a scab deliberately.

Seek assessment before cosmetic treatment if a lesion is new, asymmetric, bleeding, painful, crusted or changing. After a procedure, contact the treating team about increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever or delayed healing. Those findings need clinical review rather than another home remedy.

Ask how the diagnosis was made, why a particular method fits the area, what aftercare is required, and what signs would indicate infection or pigment change.
