What should you know about sakit na dengue?

Dengue can cause a sudden fever with headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle aches, joint pain, chills, nausea, or a rash. Easy bruising or bleeding can occur and should be taken seriously. Symptoms overlap with other infections, so a clinical assessment and, when appropriate, blood testing are needed. The period as fever settles can still require close observation because warning signs may become clearer then.

Arrange a GP Consultation if dengue is possible, especially after mosquito exposure in an area where it occurs. Rest, drink regularly, and record symptoms and fluid intake. Ask a clinician which fever medicine is suitable; avoid aspirin or ibuprofen unless specifically advised because they may increase bleeding risk. Prevent further mosquito bites with repellent, covered clothing, screens, and bed nets so mosquitoes do not spread infection to others.

Seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, blood in vomit or stool, black stools, trouble breathing, extreme weakness, confusion, fainting, or inability to drink. Urgent assessment is also needed if urine becomes markedly reduced or the person becomes unusually sleepy. Children, pregnant people, older adults, and those with long-term conditions should receive medical advice early.
