What should you know about runny nose after cauterization?

A runny nose after nasal cauterization is often caused by temporary irritation and healing inside the nose, but worsening or persistent symptoms need clinical advice. Cauterization treats a small area of nasal tissue, and the treated lining may react with watery drainage, congestion, crusting, or a mild stinging feeling while it settles. A runny nose can also happen at the same time as an unrelated cold or allergy; the symptom alone does not identify its cause.

Clear, thin drainage soon after the procedure commonly fits irritation of the nasal lining. Mucus may become thicker as crusts form, and a blocked feeling can make drainage seem more noticeable. Seek urgent medical help for heavy bleeding that does not stop with the pressure instructions you were given, trouble breathing, faintness, or severe swelling.
