What should you know about roseola spots?

The word spots may describe red or skin-coloured bumps, pustules, or flat marks. Acne, folliculitis, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, and razor bumps can look similar but need different care. Note whether spots cluster around hair follicles, the mouth, beard area, or central face, and whether they itch, burn, hurt, or contain fluid.

If the spots followed shaving, a new cosmetic, sweating, or a medicine, share that timing. A clinician may also ask whether the eruption is changing or leaving marks.

Cleanse gently, avoid picking, and pause new or irritating products. Use a clean razor or pause shaving over inflamed skin. Choose loose, breathable clothing when sweat is involved and avoid squeezing pustules. Do not use leftover antibiotics or strong steroid creams without advice, especially on the face.

Seek urgent care for rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, facial swelling, fever with a worsening eruption, extensive blistering, or spots involving the eyes.
