What should you know about rosa total knee replacement?

In a total knee replacement, damaged joint surfaces are removed and replaced with components that allow the knee to move more smoothly. The ROSA system uses information gathered during the operation to support alignment and positioning decisions. It does not perform the operation independently: the orthopaedic surgeon selects the plan, makes the cuts, places the components, and adapts the approach when the knee findings require it.

The implant may include a metal component, a plastic bearing, and fixation using bone cement or another method chosen by the surgeon. Materials can include cobalt-chrome alloy, highly cross-linked polyethylene, or titanium implant components. The appropriate choice depends on anatomy, bone quality, activity, and the surgeon's assessment.

Before surgery, review medicines, dental or skin infections, medical conditions, and the support available at home. Your team may ask you to practise exercises, prepare walking aids, and plan how to manage stairs. Rehabilitation usually focuses on safe walking, knee movement, swelling control, and gradually rebuilding thigh strength. Follow the wound-care, medication, exercise, and weight-bearing instructions given to you; do not force a painful movement.

A replacement may be considered when knee damage causes persistent pain or limits activities despite appropriate non-surgical care. Knee osteoarthritis is one possible reason, but the decision is individual and depends on symptoms, examination, imaging, and your goals.

After surgery, contact your clinical team promptly for increasing wound redness, drainage, wound opening, fever, escalating pain, or a sudden decline in movement. Seek urgent help for new chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, or a swollen painful calf. A sudden inability to bear weight or a new deformity also needs urgent assessment. These symptoms can have several causes, so do not try to diagnose a complication from symptoms alone.
