What should you know about Robitussin Cough and Cold?

A cough with a blocked or runny nose, sore throat or general cold symptoms can occur with the common cold. Acute bronchitis can also follow a respiratory infection. A combination product may contain a cough ingredient plus one or more ingredients aimed at nasal or pain symptoms. Formulas vary by country and product, so the front of the bottle is not enough to identify every active ingredient. A symptom does not prove which condition caused it.

Read the full label, including warnings, age limits and maximum daily amount. Use the supplied measuring device for liquid. Do not add a separate pain reliever, decongestant, antihistamine or cough medicine unless a pharmacist confirms that the ingredients are compatible. Fluids, rest, warm drinks and avoiding smoke may ease cold symptoms. Ask before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, treating a child, or living with high blood pressure, glaucoma, liver disease or another long-term condition.

Get urgent help for serious trouble breathing, blue or grey lips, severe drowsiness, confusion, fainting or chest pain. Contact a clinician promptly if you cough blood, become dehydrated, develop a severe or persistent fever, or feel markedly worse. Arrange a review when a cough persists, keeps returning, or comes with wheeze; asthma and chronic cough are among the conditions a clinician may consider. Children with breathing difficulty should be assessed urgently.
