Right Hydrosalpinx: What It Means

The fallopian tubes help move an egg toward the uterus. With a hydrosalpinx, the right tube has become narrowed or closed and fluid has collected inside it. Some people have no symptoms; others notice pelvic discomfort, unusual discharge, or difficulty becoming pregnant. A scan may suggest the finding, but your clinician may recommend further assessment to understand the tube and the other pelvic organs.

Previous pelvic infection, including pelvic inflammatory disease, can damage the tube. The finding is not a diagnosis of cancer and does not by itself describe the health of the left tube.

Arrange a gynaecology or fertility consultation and take the scan report with you. Ask whether the left tube needs checking, whether infection testing is appropriate, and how the hydrosalpinx may affect attempts to conceive. Treatment depends on symptoms, tube changes, fertility plans, and the condition of the rest of the pelvis. Options may include monitoring, surgery such as salpingectomy, or assisted reproduction such as IVF.

Seek urgent medical help for severe or rapidly worsening pelvic pain, fainting, heavy vaginal bleeding, fever, repeated vomiting, or a positive pregnancy test with one-sided pain. These symptoms can signal a complication that needs prompt examination. Arrange routine review for persistent pelvic pain, unusual discharge, or fertility concerns.

Ask what confirmed the hydrosalpinx, whether infection or endometriosis is suspected, and how the left tube and ovaries look. Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of monitoring, salpingectomy, and IVF in relation to your fertility goals.
