What should you know about right eye headache?

Pain near one eye may accompany nasal congestion, facial pressure or irritation from allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis or a common cold. Dehydration, heat exhaustion, poor sleep, visual strain and stress can also contribute to headache. Fever, body aches or recent illness may point toward an infection such as COVID-19, while dengue fever needs consideration after relevant travel or mosquito exposure. A one-sided headache is a symptom, not a diagnosis; the exact pattern, eye findings, temperature, hydration and neurological signs help separate causes.

Rest in a comfortable, dim environment, drink fluids if you can, and take breaks from screens. Note when the pain starts, how long it lasts, its severity, vision changes, nasal symptoms, fever, recent heat exposure and medicines taken. Follow label directions for any medicine you use and avoid repeated self-treatment if headaches keep returning. Arrange a clinical review when pain is new, persistent, recurrent or interfering with normal activities.

Seek emergency care for a sudden severe headache, new weakness, numbness, confusion, fainting, seizure, stiff neck with fever, loss of vision, a painful red eye, or headache after injury. Seek prompt advice if vomiting prevents fluids, you are overheating and confused, or symptoms follow travel with fever or bleeding.
